Burn2's Octoburn Returns to Echo Black Rock City
That Thing In The Desert, in Black Rock City, Nevada is set to rise again, August 24th through September 1st this year. Some of our community members will be going there, and we are so excited for them!
Meanwhile, the Burn2 Burners look ahead to our virtual "big Burn" event we call Octoburn, set for October 17-26. This event is our annual "echo" of Burning Man's Black Rock City - even incorporating the art theme, TOMORROW TODAY, which "is an invitation to imagine the future in new ways, and to make it real through our collective actions." Art theme of Burning Man in 2025. Imagine the look and feel of a World's Fair...
Get some inspiration from reading about this theme when you think of names for the regions of Burn2's playa. The survey below will ask 1 question: a region name suggestion. Our burner community never fails to surprise us with brilliant ideas for names! You can also check out this year's street names at Black Rock City! While people's names cannot be used (see the guidelines below), you might be inspired by the words or creations for which they are known.
Burners, put on your thinking top hats, caps, beanies! You can suggest ideas for the additional region names. After we've collected your ideas, we will set up a vote for your favourites, with the Burn2 planning committee deciding the final selections. And as you think about your suggestions, please remember these naming guidelines from Linden Lab®:
- Cannot be a name that is already being used
- Length up to 19 characters, including spaces*
- Two words or less
- Only alphanumeric characters
- Cannot use the name of a real life city
- Cannot use SL, Linden, Linden Lab, Second Life, etc. in the name
- Must be suitable for general audiences**
- No real person's name
- Must not violate any trademark right, copyright or other property right
- Vulgarity is NOT permitted (this includes obscenities in any language however spelled; racist, sexist or otherwise derogatory in nature)
- Deadline: 11PM SLT Wednesday, the 6th of August.
*The full name of each region will be prefixed with "BURN2 " so the 19 character limit keeps the name length in compliance with the "less than 26 characters" requirement from Linden Lab.
**While the Octoburn regions will be Moderate rated, the names must comply with the General maturity rating standard.
The Burn2 planning committee reserves the right to alter a name or select a different name, in the event the Lab staff ask us to do so.
