Burn2's Octoburn Returns to Echo Black Rock City

That Thing In The Desert, in Black Rock City, Nevada is set to rise again, August 27th through September 4th this year. Some of our community members will be going there, and we are so excited for them!

Meanwhile, the Burn2 Burners look ahead to our virtual "big Burn" event we call Octoburn, set for October 6-15. This event is our annual "echo" of Burning Man's Black Rock City - even incorporating the art theme, "ANIMALIA," a celebration of the animal world, which includes us humans as well: Art theme of Burning Man in 2023.

Use the inspiration from reading about this theme when you think of names for the regions of Burn2's playa. There will be a total of 12 regions including Deep Hole. The survey below will ask 2+ questions: a region name suggestion, an option to suggest a second region name, and a yes/no on keeping the low-rules "Anarchy" region. Our burner community never fails to surprise us with brilliant ideas for names!

Burners, put on your thinking top hats, caps, beanies! You can suggest ideas for the additional region names. The Burn2 planning committee will review submissions and select the best names. And as you think about your suggestions, please remember these naming guidelines which come from Linden Lab®:

• Cannot be a name that is already being used
• Length up to 18 characters, including spaces*
• Two words or less
• Only alphanumeric characters
• Cannot use the name of a real life city
• Cannot use SL, Linden, Linden Lab, Second Life, etc. in the name
• Must be compliant with a G region rating**
• No real person's name
• Must not violate any trademark right, copyright or other property right
• Vulgarity is NOT permitted (this includes obscenities in any language however spelled; racist, sexist or otherwise derogatory in nature)
• Deadline: 11PM SLT Tuesday, the 25th of July.

*The full name of each region will be prefixed with "BURN2- " so the 18 character limit keeps the name length in compliance with the "less than 26 characters" requirement from Linden Lab.

**While the regions will be Moderate rated, the names must comply with G maturity rating.

The Burn2 planning committee reserves the right to alter a name or select a different name, in the event the Lab staff ask us to do so.
