BURN2 Land Rush 2011

This is your last chance to get that amazing chunk o' the Playa for BURN2!

Load up your motor home, throw the tent in the Bus, and head out to the Virtual SL Playa! Saturday, September 10th starting at 9:00 AM SLT the virtual Playa will open. Three full sims will have 1024 square meter plots supporting 248 prims scattered about BURNING MAN- Hualapai, BURNING MAN- Black Rock, and BURNING MAN- Silver Seed.

Land terminals will be set up for you to pay for your dusty slice of heaven. Plots are available for the event duration for $14,000L. Please join the BURNINGMAN 2.0 group and then request access to BURNING MAN ACCESS group after your purchase.

Caveats and Quid Pro Quo stuff (The back of your ticket says): By participating in the Land Rush you agree to the Rush rules and decisions made by the BURN2 DPW in the execution of these Rushes. This land rush is open to all, without restriction. You may purchase as many plots as you like. Please note that plot locations cannot be joined or adjusted, they are where they are, just like the real Black Rock desert. Builders may have up to two assistants. The builder who owns the plot is responsible for their assistants' actions at all times, and insuring that all builders are knowledgeable of the Builder Guidelines, Burning Man Ten Principles, Policies of BURN2, Second Life Terms of Service and the Second Life Community Standards.

Please note! Never pay anyone directly! All payments must go through the land terminal on the parcel. If you pay someone directly we will not be held liable for a refund of your land terminal fee.

64 meter prims at BURN2

BURN2 Department of Public Works

Builder’s Guidelines Addendum August, 2011

The BURN2 Operations team is pleased to announce that large prims will be allowed at this year’s burn. What does this mean to you?

You may now use prims up to 64m X 64m. Prims larger than this size will not be allowed. Large prims over 10m X 10m will NOT be allowed for use in moving vehicles, flying or otherwise. Mesh physical objects won't be allowed on playa as a 10 prim mesh object increases greatly in prim size when physical.

Older styled “megaprims” that were created prior to LL’s prim size increase, or contain phantom scripts will NOT be allowed.

Please use care in scripting or texturing large prims, as keeping texture rendering times under control is very much a priority.

If your build is  found to contain prims that do not meet the build guidelines you will be asked to be correct the issue.

As with other build issues, refusal to adjust builds to meet guidelines will result in the prims being removed.

BURN2 staff are here to help you and will be happy to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

 Now go build something!!

2011 Builder Guidelines

BURN2 2011 Builder Guidelines

Revised July 2011

Builder Access Guidelines

On August 24, 2011 you will receive your acceptance and parcel assignment. The estate will open for build, and only to members of the BURN2 Access group on August 25 September 7th, 2011.

You should receive an invitation to the BURN2 Access group on August 24th. Please allow at least 12 hours from receipt of the above. Due to SL limitations and its known ability to fail to deliver group invitations, you may not receive it at first.  If you did not receive an invitation to the BURN2 Access group within the specified time, please request an invitation in the BurningMan 2.0 group for assistance. Please exercise patience, someone will respond. You may also request to add up to two additional builders to assist you prior to the event.

Before you Build:

By building at BURN2, you agree to keep your work and content within the guidelines of Linden Lab’s “Mature/Moderate” rating, which means violent content is not acceptable, and nudity is limited. BURN2 reserves the right to determine the limits of nudity or violence, and we may ask you to adjust your work accordingly. You may wish to familiarize yourself with Linden Lab’s Maturity Ratings Guidelines.

Please note that political satire is appreciated as such, but BURN2 is not the place to declare your right to free speech. BURN2 reserves the right to remove any build it finds to be objectionable to the extremely liberal community standards of Burning Man.

Every participant must adhere to the Second Life™ Terms of Service and Second Life™ Community Standards.   http://secondlife.com/corporate/tos.php  and https://secure-web34.secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php

Familiarize yourself with the Ten Principles of Burning Man. BURN2 staff use them daily to interpret the policies and the BURN2 event aesthetics. You can find them at

Building Policies:

! Important: Set all prims to the group BURN2 Access or they will auto return after 2 minutes! If you are not sure how to do this, please ask for assistance in the BURN2 Access group chat. Prims not set to Burn2 Access and found on parcels without auto return will be returned with no notice to the builder or owner.

Decommodification:

BURN2 is completely non-commercial. There is no buying or selling in this city. No sponsorships, no logos; only acts of unconditional gift giving. Builds or content that seem like advertising will not be allowed. Advertising or recruiting for your groups will not be allowed, whether commercial, educational, recreational, charitable, or otherwise.

Donation solicitations in any form that are not specifically for BURN2 and managed by BURN2 organizers, whether they are made verbally or from a kiosk—are prohibited. While we appreciate the efforts Residents make to inform, educate, and encourage support of charitable causes, this decommodified event cannot be used as a vehicle for the procurement of donations for charities or  causes.  Furthermore, any object that  runs a script that may offer to teleport an individual out of the sims to make a donation is also prohibited.

Automatic notecard dispensers and group inviters are prohibited. BURN2 values live Resident interactions over automated machines.

Teleporter scripts, offers to teleport, or exit the BURN2 estate to locations outside of BURN2 are prohibited. Be here now. If found they will be removed by either a ranger or a DPW member

Megaprims are prohibited at BURN2 events, no exceptions, no bending rules, this is final. Megaprims or prims that once were megaprims found in your build will be asked to be removed from the build by either a Ranger or a DPW member. Please remember they are volunteers and only want to help.

Please read the Builder Guidelines for the useage of the new 64m prims here

Guidelines:

Please keep texture size as low as possible and reuse textures when you can. 512x512 or its equivalent should be your maximum texture size in almost any situation. If you need assistance with textures, please ask for DPW assistance in BURN2 Access group chat, and we will do our best to help you.

The use of sky boxes / platforms is prohibited at Burn2, this is a land based event and scattering objects in the sky will result in their removal from the Burn2 event.

Build height is restricted to 45 meters high off the ground, while this is an event where size and the normal rules of physics don’t apply we still want to keep everything viewable from the ground. Any builds found to be taller than 45 meters high will be asked to have them adjusted.  Builds that perform shows and events that require avatars to change may request to place a small platform in the sky for performers to go to to change this platform still must remain in your parcel and will count towards your prim usage. Platforms found in the air without approval will be returned.

Parcel limits:  Please maintain the border of your parcel as to not cross into your neighbor’s plots. We all have a small amount of resources to work with and must make sure to utilize only our own. Rangers and DPW members will check parcels for errant prims and will ask to have them removed.

Scripts that ping the server for information, such as scanners, visitor logs, etc. have a greater impact on region performance than scripts that don't interact with the server. If possible, please do not use any scripts that require interacting with the region server or an external server/database for information to function. Please keep script times to .02ms or less if at all possible. If you’re not sure or would like assistance with scripts, please ask for DPW assistance in BURN2 Access group chat, and we will do our best to help you.

Sculpted and flexi prims cause more client side lag than standard prims in general; please use these types of prims sparingly for a smoother experience for everyone.

Please try to restrict the use of physics-enabled objects and remember that NO temp-on-rez prims are allowed. Exhibits that utilize the physics engine will be reviewed prior to opening to make sure that they will not cause problems when the regions are filled with visitors. If you are not sure or would like assistance with this, please ask for DPW assistance in BURN2 Access group chat, and we will do our best to help you.

Builder Resources - Volunteers

DPW   They are here to help you get acclimated, as well as make sure you and your building team have proper access. They may check your work to see if it complies with BURN2 Builder Policies. If you have lost objects or land issues, please contact a Ranger or DPW Member for further assistance. Please follow all directions from DPW members to ensure your camp, build, and work is compliant. This will insure everyone has access to their fair share of resources.

Rangers are guardians of the shared community standards of Burning Man. The Rangers are here to assist you in complying with Burning Man’s Ten Principles, the BURN2 Builder Policies, and to remind you of Linden Lab’s Terms of Service (ToS) and Community Standards (CS). If you need assistance with an issue or have a problem with another participant, please request a Ranger in group chat, and one will be dispatched as quickly as possible. If the Ranger is not able to help you, s/he will put you in contact with someone who can.
