Burning Man- Deep Hole, August 20, 2011 - As BURN2 starts up, one of the most anticipated pre-BURN announcements is the selections for juried theme camps and art plots. 

BURN2 follows the BURNING MAN 10 principles and gifts plots on the virtual ePlaya to groups who have submitted proposals to the BURN2 Art Team. These groups will be amazing us, engaging us, and energizing the ePlaya with their work Oct 1 - 9 when BURN2 opens Gate Road!

So with a textual drum roll we would like to announce the selectees for the 2011 BURN2 Burn!

We are very excited to see what these camps and art installations look like! We aren’t giving out exactly what these camps will be..just that we think they will be amazing!

We want to thank EVERYONE who submitted an application for one of the plots. Your ideas ARE AMAZING. You made it incredibly difficult! We want to encourage you to grab your own plot now and build that camp! If you need sponsors to get that plot please reach out to us info@burn2.org and we will give you a few suggestions!

This is your last chance to get that amazing chunk o' the Playa for BURN2!

Load up your motor home, throw the tent in the Bus, and head out to the Virtual SL Playa! Saturday, September 10th starting at 9:00 AM SLT the virtual Playa will open. Three full sims will have 1024 square meter plots supporting 248 prims scattered about BURNING MAN- Hualapai, BURNING MAN- Black Rock, and BURNING MAN- Silver Seed.

Land terminals will be set up for you to pay for your dusty slice of heaven. Plots are available for the event duration for $14,000L. Please join the BURNINGMAN 2.0 group and then request access to BURNING MAN ACCESS group after your purchase.

Caveats and Quid Pro Quo stuff (The back of your ticket says): By participating in the Land Rush you agree to the Rush rules and decisions made by the BURN2 DPW in the execution of these Rushes. This land rush is open to all, without restriction. You may purchase as many plots as you like. Please note that plot locations cannot be joined or adjusted, they are where they are, just like the real Black Rock desert. Builders may have up to two assistants. The builder who owns the plot is responsible for their assistants' actions at all times, and insuring that all builders are knowledgeable of the Builder Guidelines, Burning Man Ten Principles, Policies of BURN2, Second Life Terms of Service and the Second Life Community Standards.   

Please note! Never pay anyone directly! All payments must go through the land terminal on the parcel. If you pay someone directly we will not be held liable for a refund of your land terminal fee.

Welcome to BURN2! The main event, the one you've been waiting for all year, is coming up October 1 to the 9th!

So how can you get involved?

There are several ways to get involved, and you can participate in one, some, or all of them.

First, you can get a camp plot and build a camp. Your camp can be anything you want, as long as it complies with the Ten Principles and BURN2 Builders Guidelines. Time is running out though! We have a land rush coming!

Second, you can volunteer for one of the many departments! Volunteering is a fun way to spend time with cool people, learn new skills, make new friends, and learn more about Burning Man and BURN2. We love our volunteers! Want to build? Manage plots? Make art cars? Be a Ranger? Work with the stages and performers? Greet participants, answer questions, and help people find stuff? Be a Lamplighter? Help develop this wonderful web site? We have these positions and many more available! Just surf on over to our volunteers section for more information, position descriptions, and our handy online application!

Third, you can donate money! BURN2, unlike Burning Life, is not supported by Linden Lab. It is an entirely resident created event, which means we pay for the sims we use, and every little bit helps! You can donate Linden dollars inworld at the donation kiosk in the BURN2 information tent or US dollars through PayPal (see the PayPal donation button in the navigation column to your right).

Fourth, if none of these appeal to you or you have limited time and/or finances, then come on down during the event and have some fun! We'll have lots of free stuff--yes, TOTALLY FREE and free of any commercialization--and fun things to do. You can still participate fully by enjoying all the creative things people have built and spending time on the playa! Just like at Burning Man! We'll even tell you how to make it more realistic, if you wish!

This event is successful because of the hundreds of volunteers who graciously donate their time, patience, energy, and skills, as well as lots and lots of caffeine. Some folks have been volunteering for years, and for others, this will be their first time.

There are moments of crisis and frisson in our lives which inform us that we've somehow crossed an inner threshold and are changed. Thus moving from one state of being into an unknown other obliges us to face our innermost insecurities, and it requires faith, a willingness to leap off the ladder of ordered existence. Our theme this year invites participants to join with others in creating rites of passage.
